The Pirates of Penzance
5th August 2017

Gala performance by Perth City Opera Group, replicating a charity performance 100 years ago. The Pirates of Penzance; or, The Slave of Duty has been entertaining audiences around the world since 1880. The story centers around Frederic, a young pirate, having just completed his apprenticeship to a band of tender hearted Pirates. Frederic quickly meets and falls in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. The comic opera reverberates with all the antics normally associated with Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas with a whimsical libretto by W S Gilbert to compliment the score by Arthur Sullivan. With classic songs such as Major-General's Song to With Cat Like Tread, Pirates of Penzance is an Operetta that has something for every audience, and is certainly an evening not to be missed.
